What is the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana?
The Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) is a state sponsored social welfare scheme that provides
a monthly pension to vulnerable residents of Odisha. Fully funded by the state government, it gives elderly
citizens, widows, persons with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups a regular source of income to
meet their daily needs.
The scheme was launched on 1 January 2008 and named after the respected Odia leader
Madhusudan Das. It was created by combining two older sets of rules: the Revised Old Age Pension Rules of
1989 and the Disability Pension Rules of 1985. Today, it is managed by the Social Security and Empowerment
of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department and supports millions of beneficiaries across the state.

those aged 80 and above, and ₹900 for those with severe disabilities.

sends
them to the Sub-Collector within 15 days.

If the Sub-Collector rejects your application, the decision is normally final.
However, if
you think your application was rejected by mistake, you can request a review from the District
Collector.
The Collector is the final supervisory authority. A decision made by the Collector after review is
final,
and there is no further appeal.
When and How the Madhu Babu Pension is Paid?
The government transfers the pension on the 15th day of every month. The money goes directly
into your Aadhaar linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer.
If direct bank transfer is not possible in some remote areas, the pension may be paid in cash
in ₹100 denominations during Jan Seva Diwas at the Gram Panchayat or Block Development Office. Payment
starts from the first day of the month after your sanction order, subject to available funding slots in your
local body.
Annual life certificate
To keep receiving the pension every year, you must show that you are alive and still
eligible. The BDO or Executive Officer carries out an annual verification, usually during the first week of
April. You must provide your annual life certificate during this period. If you fail to complete the
verification, or move outside Odisha, your pension payments will be stopped immediately.
